Several regions in Russia were attacked by drones on the night of September 10. The Russian side claims to have "repelled" an airstrike near Moscow, where fires broke out in residential buildings, and a fire emergency was reported at Zhukovsky Airport.
Moscow Region
The mayor of the Russian capital reported a drone attack at around 2:30 a.m. local time. Initially, he claimed that an aircraft-type drone was shot down in the Lyubertsy urban district.
Later, the area of air defense activity expanded to Ramenskoye (where Zhukovsky Airport is located), Podolsk, Kolomna, and the Domodedovo urban district (home to an international airport).
It’s noteworthy that the operation of all Moscow airports was suspended due to the drone attack. The plan was enacted, meaning planes were neither landing nor taking off.
According to the Moscow region authorities, air defense systems shot down a total of "14 drones in the urban districts of Podolsk, Ramenskoye, Lyubertsy, Domodedovo, and Kolomna. This information was provided by Moscow Region Governor Andrey Vorobyov.
Russian officials also mentioned efforts to address the aftermath of what they claim were drone debris near Zhukovsky Airport (Ramenskoye). However, videos surfaced showing damage to the runway from an alleged explosion, and a fire broke out in the airport area.
In the city of Ramenskoye, following the operation of air defense systems, drones crashed into three apartment buildings: on Sportivny Drive and on Vysokovoltnaya and Fabrichnaya Streets. As a result, fires broke out in these buildings.
The governor of the Moscow region stated in the morning that "according to updated data, three people were injured in the building on Sportivny Drive... A 46-year-old woman was killed (earlier reports of a 9-year-old child's death were not confirmed)."
Sobyanin also informed Russian media about the fall of drone debris on the grounds of a private estate in Moscow's Troitsky Administrative District.
Bryansk Region
The governor of the Bryansk region, Alexander Bogomaz, claims that air defense systems destroyed 59 fixed-wing drones overnight. As is typical, the Russian official asserts that there were no casualties or damage.
Tula Region
Authorities in the Tula region reported closer to the morning that air defense systems had destroyed two drones. The regional security ministry indicated that drone debris fell on a fuel and energy complex. They claimed there were no casualties and that the technical operations of the complex were not affected.
Lipetsk Region
The governor of this region, Igor Artamonov, wrote on Telegram overnight that drones were "suppressed" in the Yelets, Lipetsk, and Volovsky districts. According to him, there were no casualties, and special services were working at the debris sites.
Kaluga Region
According to Kaluga region governor Vladislav Shapsha, air defense systems operated in the Zhukovsky, Maloyaroslavetsky, and Dzerzhinsky districts overnight, allegedly destroying seven drones. He reported on Telegram at 6:12 AM that operational teams were at the sites, and there were no casualties or infrastructure damage. However, there were reports online of possible air defense activity near the "Shaikovo" military airfield.
Notably, Ukrainian Volunteer Army "South" representative and spokesman for the Odesa regional military administration, Serhiy Bratchuk, mentioned in the morning that this airfield is used by Russian forces, particularly for Tu-22M3 aircraft. The outcome of the attack will become clearer later.
Kursk Region
Reports of explosions in the region surfaced on local social media overnight. Acting governor of the Kursk region, Alexey Smirnov, stated in the morning that 12 fixed-wing drones had been shot down in a "massive" attack. He provided no details on the consequences but warned on Telegram not to approach or touch drone debris.
There were also reports that the "Khalino" airfield, which Russian forces use to launch "Shahed" drones against Ukraine, had come under attack.
