Survey: Every second German does not support anti-Russian sanctions

47% of the Germans surveyed expressed doubts about the sanctions and believe that they harm Germany more than the aggressor country.

In the fifth month of Russia’s full-scale military invasion of Ukraine, almost half of Germans believe that sanctions against the Russian Federation harm Germany more than Russia.

This is evidenced by the results of a survey by the Insa Institute, according to Bild am Sonntag.

• About 47% of the Germans surveyed expressed doubts about the sanctions and believed that they harm Germany more than the aggressor country Russia.

• 36% are in favor of the fact that the damage from sanctions is about the same, both for Germany and the Russian Federation.

• 12% of respondents expressed the opinion that Russia suffers more from sanctions.

• Also, the study showed that the majority of Germans, about 74%, are preparing for a financial downturn and rising unemployment. Another 83% believe prices will continue to grow.

• 63% of those polled expect Germany to declare a so-called emergency due to the gas crisis. Another 83% think there will also be restrictions on energy consumption for private households.

The survey was conducted by the research institute Insa among 1003 respondents in Germany.
