Sweden has permitted the use of weapons supplied to Ukraine for strikes on military targets within Russian territory.
This was reported by the Swedish newspaper Hallandsposten.
Journalists sent an inquiry to Swedish Defense Minister Pål Jonson and received the following response:
“Ukraine is the target of an unprovoked and illegal aggressive war by Russia. Under international law, Ukraine has the right to defend itself through military actions directed against the territory of the adversary, provided these actions comply with the laws and customs of war. Sweden supports international law and Ukraine's right to self-defense.”
According to the publication, the boundaries of Ukraine's defense should be established by international law, not by unilaterally imposed restrictions from Ukraine's allies, which cost Ukrainian lives. The Swedish government should advocate this position to other Western countries, not only behind closed doors but also publicly, Hallandsposten notes.
