Since the introduction of mandatory reporting of cyberattacks on critical infrastructure six months ago, 164 cyber incidents have been recorded in Switzerland, Swissinfo reports citing the Swiss Federal Office for Cybersecurity (FCOS).
The most frequent attacks were DDoS (18.1%), followed by hacks (16.1%) and ransomware (12.4%). In 11.4% of cases attackers stole login credentials, 9.8% involved data leaks, and 9.3% malware. Numerous combined attacks were also recorded.
The most affected sectors were finance (19%), IT (8.7%), and energy (7.6%). Other reports came from government agencies, healthcare, telecom, postal services, transport, media, food supply and technology.
Since April, critical infrastructure operators must notify FCOS of cyberattacks within 24 hours.
The reports are used for statistics and to forecast potential future threats.
