As of today, more than 2.5 million hectares have already been sown with spring crops in Ukraine, which is about 20% of the forecast. This was announced on the air of the national telethon by the First Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Taras Vysotsky, the Ministry's press service reported on April 21.
“Today, in parts of the territories that were liberated from occupation, there is a need to clear the fields: these are Chernihiv, Sumy, part of the Kharkiv and Kyiv regions. And even in these regions, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy expects that at least 60-70% will be able to complete all spring fieldwork in a timely manner,†he said.
According to T. Vysotsky, the most difficult situation is in the temporarily occupied regions and where active hostilities continue - Lugansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson regions. There, the forecast is less optimistic - sowing there can take place under a pessimistic scenario only on 30-40% of the area.
In other territories of Ukraine, the sowing campaign is going according to plan, in most cases, farmers have purchased material resources in advance. The Ministry of Agrarian Policy collects forecasted plans twice a week, sowing and comparing all the data, monitoring the situation in real-time. The recommendations given by the Ministry to increase the areas of food crops, such as buckwheat, and millet, are being implemented by farmers.
"At present, an effective dialogue has been built - we hope that this will continue in the future," Taras Vysotsky noted.
