The Biosphere Corporation, a leading producer and distributor of household goods, plans to launch a garbage bag production facility in Uzbekistan next year. The facility will utilize recycled materials instead of primary polymers, aiming to actively promote its products in Uzbekistan and neighboring Central Asian markets, according to the company’s founder and CEO, Andriy Zdesenko.
“This will increase the load on our 'Polygreen' plant in Fastiv, which currently operates at 80% capacity. It will also enable us to build another plant in Ukraine to produce granules that will be shipped to Uzbekistan for garbage bag production. These bags will then be supplied to nearby countries,” Zdesenko stated in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine.
He also mentioned plans to expand the product range in the region, including sponges, foil, slider bags, and other household essentials.
Zdesenko noted that Uzbekistan has protected its domestic market by banning the export of garbage bags of certain thicknesses, incentivizing local production. Additionally, due to the war, logistics costs to the region, such as Kazakhstan, have tripled, with delivery times increasing from three weeks to two months.
“If we want to be competitive in Uzbekistan, which is expected to grow to 40 million people in five years, we need to produce locally,” Zdesenko emphasized.
He also highlighted that the broader Central Asian market includes approximately 100 million people, with Afghanistan’s developing market and many active trade hubs driving significant business activity.
Biosphere Corporation has operated in Ukraine for over 25 years, offering more than 1,000 products under 16 proprietary brands, including Freken BOK, Vortex, Smile, Superfresh, and PRO service. It also serves as the official distributor of international brands such as TORK, Selpak, and Fantom.
The corporation’s facilities in Ukraine include three factories with a total production area of 35,000 square meters, located in the Dnipropetrovsk, Kyiv, and Khmelnytskyi regions, as well as logistics centers spanning 30,000 square meters. Additionally, in partnership with the French Groupe Lemoine, it operates a cotton product manufacturing plant in Estonia, covering 8,500 square meters.
In late 2023, Biosphere launched a new food division under the Cupsoul brand, offering premium teas such as Graff and Ritz Barton.
