One of the key areas of the Cabinet of Ministers’ work remains strengthening Ukraine's self-sufficiency. An additional 7.9 billion hryvnias will be allocated for the purchase of drones.

This was reported by the head of the Ukrainian government, Denys Shmyhal, during a meeting.

'The daily challenges we are currently facing are not only related to energy. Our country faces challenges in many areas—finances, weapons, economy, support for Ukrainian families, social benefits, security. To overcome these challenges, one of the key areas of the government's work remains strengthening Ukraine's self-sufficiency,' stated Shmyhal.

Regarding self-sufficiency, as the head of government explained, particular attention is paid to the production of domestic weapons and strengthening the economy. According to him, in the drone segment, domestic production accounts for almost 100%. Additionally, in January, drone production increased tenfold compared to January 2024.

In particular, for the years 2023 and 2024:

  • Domestic artillery production increased threefold;
  • Armored personnel carriers—five times;
  • Anti-tank weapons—twice;
  • Ammunition—2.5 times.

'At the same time, we now produce about one-third of the weapons we need. The government’s goal is to increase domestic weapon production to at least half of the current demand,' he added.

According to the head of the government, the Cabinet of Ministers has also approved the decision to allocate an additional 7.9 billion hryvnias for the purchase of drones. The funds will be transferred to the State Special Communications Service, which will carry out the necessary purchases.
