The Central Election Commission has registered Vladimir Putin as a candidate for the presidential elections in Russia.
The resolution was adopted during a meeting of the CEC, stating,
"To register the candidate for the position of President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, born in 1952, on January 29, 2024, at 11:23."
Putin, according to Interfax, has become the fourth registered candidate for the upcoming presidential elections in Russia. Previously, the Central Election Commission registered the leader of the LDPR party, Leonid Slutsky, the Deputy Speaker of the State Duma and member of the "New People" party, Vladislav Davankov, as well as State Duma deputy (Communist Party faction) Nikolay Kharitonov.
Putin is running as an independent candidate, but he is officially supported by the "United Russia" party.
Putin's current term expires on May 7, 2024. The 2024 presidential elections in Russia will be held over three days for the first time, incorporating remote electronic voting (REV). If Putin wins, he will hold the position of the head of state until 2030, following constitutional amendments in 2020 that reset his previous presidential terms.
