On November 7, 2024, the dramatic feature film 'Bucha' was released in Ukrainian cinemas, created with the support of the Ukrainian Military Intelligence.
A pre-premiere screening of the film was held in Kyiv the day before. The film is based on the true story of volunteer Konstantin Gudauskas, a citizen of Kazakhstan. He took the highest risk and participated in the evacuation operation called 'Bucha' in the spring of 2022, helping to evacuate hundreds of people from the Russian-occupied city and saving their lives.
“Kostya is a very brave, deep person. This story once again proves that the desire to help and human values can create miracles. […] I am grateful for the trust and support of Kyrylo Budanov – the operation was carried out with the full support of the Main Intelligence Directorate,” said Main Intelligence Directorate representative Hayde Rizaieva during the film’s presentation.
“The representatives of Main Intelligence Directorate helped us a lot: they consulted us, provided photos and video materials, introduced us to intercepted Russian military conversations. We used all of this in the film. Some of the dialogues of the occupiers are quoted verbatim,” said the screenplay author and producer of the film, Oleksandr Shchur.
The creators of the drama "Bucha" have already presented their work abroad: at the 40th Warsaw International Film Festival, the film was nominated for the Audience Award.
The film is about human courage, solidarity, and the willingness to sacrifice in a critical, existential moment.
"The release of the Ukrainian film 'Bucha' on the big screen is very important because it is about an act, a choice, true heroism. The story is based on real events, and it is a good thing to preserve it in cinema, to tell it to the world, and to convey the atmosphere of the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The tension and drama of this story will certainly not leave anyone indifferent," said Andriy Yusov, a representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine.
Starting from November 7, 2024, the feature film "Bucha" will be available to watch in Ukrainian cinemas.
