The European Parliament refused to make a decision on financing the EU Council due to the inability of EU countries to provide Ukraine with additional Patriot systems.
As reported by European Truth, Eurodeputies present at the meeting conveyed this information.
Long-time Eurodeputy and former Prime Minister of Belgium Guy Verhofstadt from the Renew faction proposed to remove the approval of the European Council's budget from the agenda until member states could find seven Patriot systems, which are currently urgently needed by Ukraine.
Verhofstadt reminded of the words of the head of European diplomacy that European countries have a hundred Patriot systems when Ukraine needs seven.
His proposal was met with thunderous applause.
The decision is being called an unprecedented event. It was supported by 515 Eurodeputies, while 62 were against.
"The Parliament refuses to approve the Council's budget until the European Council decides to support Ukraine with additional Patriot missile defense systems!" - wrote Guy Verhofstadt on Twitter.
"Just now: The European Parliament has suspended the decision on financing the EU Council due to the disruption of deliveries of Patriot systems to Ukraine," - wrote Eurodeputy, former Prime Minister of Lithuania Andrius Kubilius.
