Switzerland will allocate 5 billion francs (over 5 billion euros) to Ukraine for reconstruction.

The funds are planned to be directed in stages to infrastructure and projects in the social sphere, as announced by the Swiss government.

The Federal Council intends to step up support for Ukraine's recovery over the next several years. By 2036, it plans to spend 5 billion Swiss francs. Considering the current financial situation of the Swiss federal government, the Federal Council has proposed a phased approach: support for Ukraine from the international cooperation budget until 2028 will amount to 1.5 billion Swiss francs.

During the period from 2029 to 2036, the Federal Council also intends to explore other sources (besides international cooperation) from which the remaining 3.5 billion Swiss francs can be obtained.

In particular, the funds needed for reconstruction in Ukraine are estimated at 486 billion dollars (approximately 440 billion Swiss francs). This estimate by the World Bank is based on an analysis of losses and needs, which Switzerland has co-financed.

"Switzerland is already supporting projects in Ukraine that focus on rebuilding destroyed civilian infrastructure in the energy, road and healthcare sectors. In addition, Switzerland and Ukraine jointly launched the political recovery process on a broad scale at the Ukraine Recovery Conference in Lugano in July 2022," the statement said.
