The Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will assist Ukraine in implementing the Memorandum of Cooperation under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, signed on the sidelines of the Conference on Economic Development and Reconstruction in Tokyo.

This was discussed by the Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine, Ruslan Strelets, during a meeting with Naoki Ando, Vice President of the JICA Central Office.

"Together with Mr. Naoki Ando, we continued our negotiation process that began in Kyiv. We also discussed the details of possible cooperation and JICA's involvement in Ukraine's projects for the development of the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone. Japanese partners expressed interest in deepening cooperation. After signing the Memorandum on Cooperation under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, we can already start developing and implementing specific solutions," Ruslan Strelets noted.

During the meeting, Ruslan Strelets also had the opportunity to meet with the head of the JICA Office in Ukraine, Hideki Matsunaga. The Minister of Environmental Protection expressed confidence that the Ministry and the JICA Office in Ukraine will be able to quickly advance joint projects as required during wartime.

"I thank Japan and our reliable friend, Japanese Ambassador to Ukraine Kuninori Matsuda, for their significant contribution to bringing our peoples and organizations closer together. Japan's contribution to environmental protection is immense. I am confident that after the Conference on Economic Development and Reconstruction in Tokyo, cooperation will enter a qualitatively new level," emphasized Ruslan Strelets.
