The Japanese tobacco company Japan Tobacco International has decided to continue its business operations in Russia.

This information is reported by Forbes Russia, citing Sergey Glushkov, the Director of Corporate Affairs and Communications at JTI Russia.

Glushkov asserts that the company made this decision "in order not to deprive consumers of the product they are accustomed to."

Furthermore, according to his statements, JTI will not introduce a new-generation tobacco heating device to the Russian market. Glushkov also stated that JTI complies with all regulatory rules, both internationally and in the Russian market.

In August, the National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption included two leading international tobacco companies, Philip Morris International and Japan Tobacco International, in the list of international sponsors of the war. Both companies continue to conduct business in Russia and contribute substantial tax revenue to its budget.

Japan Tobacco International (JTI) is undoubtedly the leader in the tobacco market in Russia, holding approximately 34.9% of the market share, and is one of the largest FMCG (Fast-Moving Consumer Goods) companies in the country in terms of sales volume.

The company's portfolio in the Russian market includes international brands such as Winston, LD, Mevius, Camel, Sobranie, and Russian brands like "Don Tobacco," Kiss, Play, "Peter I," "Troyka," and others.

Over the past 20 years, JTI's investments in the Russian economy have exceeded $4.6 billion. In 2020, the company's tax payments contributed 1.4% to the income of the federal budget of Russia.

In 2022, the Russian market generated around $2 billion for the JT Group, accounting for approximately 11% of its consolidated income for 2022.

Despite statements from JTI representatives that the JT Group has suspended new investments and marketing activities in Russia, the company still continues to produce and distribute its products in Russia.
