Less than six months in, the Mykolaiv water pipeline is 70% complete. This is one of the most dynamic infrastructure projects in the country. Thanks to efficient technical solutions, 2.5 billion hryvnias have been saved. This was announced by Oleksii Kuleba, Deputy Prime Minister for Recovery and Minister for Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine, during the TV telemarathon.

In the Mykolaiv region, people have been without stable water supply for almost three years due to the war. Providing the city of Mykolaiv with quality drinking water has been and remains one of the Ministry of Development’s top priorities.

“The Ministry received a project that, in the previous technical and economic feasibility study, had a cost of over 8.7 billion hryvnias.

We refused to automatically approve this document. The funds are substantial, and especially in conditions of a major war, we must be economical and prudent. A clear task was given to the head of the Recovery Agency, Serhii Sukhomlyn, to analyze the project, optimize every item, eliminate excessive expenses, and update technical solutions.

As a result of the expertise, the estimate was reduced to 6.2 billion. The savings amount to over 2.5 billion hryvnias, or 25% of the initial sum. And this was achieved without cutting any functions. On the contrary, we added backup generators, a fiber optic system, and a new irrigation line for farmers.

Construction of the new water pipeline began in January. As of the end of May, more than 70% of all work has been completed. These are very high rates for a project of such complexity and scale. Thanks to the coordinated work of the Recovery Agency, the involvement of over 500 specialists, 270 units of equipment, and a two-shift schedule, we are on track. We plan to complete construction by the end of summer.

Special thanks for the technical solutions. They are modern, efficient, and, most importantly, designed from scratch,” Oleksii Kuleba said.

He also said that the Ministry of Development will ask the Government to allocate the saved funds to other critically important water pipeline projects.
