The number of refugees from Ukraine registered for temporary protection or in similar national protection schemes in Europe reached 5 million 8.28 thousand as of March 28, 2023, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) reported on its website.

For almost two months from January 31, the increase was 185.15 thousand, while in the previous slightly longer period - 72.3 thousand, and in general, from the end of May 2022 it was about 2 million.

The number of refugees with temporary protection status in Europe near the end of January was already closely approaching the 5 million mark, reaching 4.95 million. However, then data on Germany was updated for two months, which recorded a decrease in the number of Ukrainians in the country with this status immediately by more than by 140 thousand - up to 881.4 thousand.

The next update of these data for Germany at the end of March again showed an increase - up to 922.66 thousand.

According to UNHCR data collected from national governments, the largest number of refugees with the status of temporary protection is still in Poland - 1 million 577.29 thousand, in almost two months, their number has increased by almost 14 thousand. In total, the country from Ukraine, according to the data of the Polish border service, since the beginning of the war, 10.819 million people have arrived, and 8.966 million have left for Ukraine in the opposite direction.

The third place in terms of reception of Ukrainians is the Czech Republic, where the number of people registered for temporary protection has increased by 16.9 thousand since the end of January - to 502.0 thousand.

Great Britain took fourth place - 191.9 thousand (an increase of 33.1 thousand).

Italy is now in fifth place - 173.21 thousand (an increase of 2.9 thousand), followed by Spain with a small margin - 171.87 thousand (an increase of 10.9 thousand).

Followed by Bulgaria with an indicator of 155.46 thousand (an increase of 3.8 thousand) and Romania - 123.76 thousand (an increase of 12.9 thousand).

More than 100,000 Ukrainians registered for temporary protection in two more countries - France and Slovakia: 118,990 (data as of October 21) and 112,720 (an increase of 5,700), respectively.

From 50 thousand to 100 thousand refugees from Ukraine with the status of temporary protection also in Austria - 94.98 thousand (increase by 2.5 thousand), in the Netherlands - 89.73 thousand (increase by 4.5 thousand) , Switzerland - 83.43 thousand (increase by 4.5 thousand), Lithuania - 76.16 thousand (increase by 2.6 thousand).

Among them are also Ireland - 78.03 thousand (an increase of 5.4 thousand), Belgium - 69.25 thousand (an increase of 4.9 thousand), Portugal - 58.24 thousand (an increase of 1.1 thousand), Sweden - 53.51 thousand (increase by 2.3 thousand) and Finland - 52.47 thousand (increase by 3.2 thousand).

Latvia - 46.86 thousand (increase by 1.6 thousand), Estonia - 44.40 thousand (increase by 1.6 thousand), Norway - 44, 01 thousand (an increase of 5.4 thousand), Denmark - 39.22 thousand (an increase of 1.5 thousand) and Hungary - 34.25 thousand (an increase of 0.7 thousand).

From 10 to 25 thousand refugees from Ukraine with the status of temporary protection in Cyprus - 21.84 thousand (increase by 1.2 thousand), in Croatia - 21.35 thousand (increase by 0.9 thousand) and in Greece - 20.96 thousand (data as of December 6).

In addition, the UN statistics on those who have acquired the status of temporary protection present Ukrainian refugees in Slovenia - 8.92 thousand, Montenegro - 8.30 thousand, Luxembourg - 6.76 thousand (data as of October 25), Iceland - 2.35 thousand (data as of December 31), in Malta - 1.74 thousand, in Serbia and Kosovo - 1.28 thousand, Liechtenstein - 0.54 thousand and Albania - 0.03 thousand.

The UN also indicated the countries in which refugees from Ukraine were recorded, but there is no data on their obtaining status: Moldova - 107.01 thousand, Turkey - 95.87 thousand, Georgia - 25.70 thousand, North Macedonia - 6, 57 thousand, Azerbaijan - 5.03 thousand, Armenia - 0.55 thousand and Bosnia and Herzegovina - 0.17 thousand.

Separately, the UN indicates Russia and Belarus, with which 2 million 852.4 thousand and 16.71 thousand people crossed the Ukrainian border, respectively, but after October 3, the data for Russia stopped being updated, while for Belarus, they are even older. According to the UN, all persons who crossed the border were recorded in the Russian Federation, while in Belarus - 21.83 thousand. There is no data on their acquisition of the status, as well as data on crossing the border of Ukraine in the opposite direction.

According to UNHCR data as of March 28, a total of 19.741 million people left Ukraine since the beginning of the war (not including the flow of entry), of which 10.452 million went to Poland, Russia (data as of October 3) - 2.852 million people, Hungary - 2.415 million people, Romania - 2.154 million people, Slovakia - 1.267 million people, Moldova - 795.6 thousand people, Belarus - 16.7 thousand people.

At the same time, according to the UN, from February 28, 2022 to March 28, 2023, 11,200 million people entered Ukraine (excluding data from Hungary, the Russian Federation, and Belarus).

The organization reminds that by the middle of 2021, there were only 53.47 thousand Ukrainian refugees in the world who requested the appropriate status, of which 36.49 thousand were in Europe.

As of mid-2020, the UNHCR estimated the Ukrainian diaspora globally at 6.1 million, including 5 million in Europe.
