President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with a multi-party delegation of the Latvian Saeima headed by its Speaker Daiga Mieriņa.
The President thanked Latvia for its political, humanitarian and military assistance to Ukraine, noting the allocation of 0.25% of the country’s GDP annually for the defense needs of our state.
“Thank you for Latvia's consistent support to Ukraine, especially to our warriors, since the beginning of the war, to our people who are currently residing abroad, as well as to Ukrainians who stay in Ukraine and benefit from your humanitarian assistance,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
He particularly commended humanitarian projects, contributions to the restoration of Ukraine and support for the Crimea Platform, as well as the hosting of the third parliamentary summit of this initiative in Riga last year.
“It is very important for us to remind the whole world that Crimea is a part of our sovereign state, that Crimea is a Ukrainian peninsula, and we will continue to emphasize this,” the President noted.
The key topics of the meeting were increased support for Ukraine aimed at strengthening its positions on the battlefield, other steps taken jointly with partners to achieve a just peace across Europe, and the development of security guarantees.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Daiga Mieriņa paid special attention to increasing sanctions on Russia, especially those targeting Russia's shadow fleet, energy and banking sectors.
During the meeting, the parties also discussed Latvia's participation in reconstruction projects for the Chernihiv region and the Food from Ukraine initiative.
Daiga Mieriņa emphasized that Latvia will continue supporting Ukraine on its path to European integration, participating in infrastructure reconstruction, defense industry strengthening, military personnel training, and the implementation of economic projects.
On behalf of the whole of Latvia, the Speaker of the Saeima thanked the Ukrainian people and the Armed Forces of Ukraine for their struggle and defense.
