President of Suriname Chandrikapersad Santokhi, First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine and Minister of Economy Yulia Svyrydenko, and Deputy Minister of Economy and Trade Representative of Ukraine Taras Kachka discussed strengthening economic cooperation and the potential for joint projects in agriculture and mining during a working visit of the Ukrainian delegation to the Dominican Republic.
"Both Ukraine and Suriname are interested in enhancing trade between our countries. The most promising sectors are agriculture and mining, particularly oil and gas extraction. I am grateful to the President of Suriname for the proposal to our investors to consider specific investment projects," said Yulia Svyrydenko.
The parties also agreed to exchange experiences, as Suriname, like Ukraine, actively works with the International Monetary Fund. Suriname is preparing for the seventh review of its Extended Fund Facility program, while Ukraine has completed its fourth review. Additionally, Suriname has extensive experience in overcoming economic crises.
The parties also discussed further work on President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's Peace Formula.
"We highly value the participation of the Foreign Minister of Suriname in the First Global Peace Summit and Suriname's decision to join the Joint Communiqué on the Peace Framework. The voice of Suriname and its active role in the peace process are very important to us. We have invited Suriname to join the working groups on the points of the Peace Formula, such as food security and nuclear safety," added Yulia Svyrydenko.
She also expressed gratitude for Suriname's steadfast support of Ukraine and its clear stance that global leadership in support of Ukraine should lead to the end of the war.
