Russian forces are trying to enter the territory of Sumy region with the aim of surrounding the Defense Forces located in the Kursk region.
This was stated by the spokesperson of the State Border Guard Service, Andrii Demchenko, in a TV broadcast.
"It would be incorrect to say that the Russians have broken through the border there (near Novenky in Sumy region). Of course, in an attempt to push the Defense Forces out of the Kursk region, the Russians are conducting dozens of assault actions. To develop their success, they are also trying to cross our border line to encircle our forces in the Kursk region," Demchenko said.
According to him, the task is to prevent the Russian forces from crossing our border.
"Because that is their objective, and this is what we are currently monitoring in the direction of the settlement of Novenky," Demchenko clarified.
The spokesperson added that on this direction, the Russian forces cannot use heavy equipment and are attempting to cross the border with small assault groups, whose mission is to penetrate deep into our territory, secure a position, and further expand the combat zone.
Demchenko reported that over the past day, about 20 Russian soldiers were destroyed in this area, and around 15 were wounded.
