The SBI officers informed about the suspicion of the acting to the head of the board of one of the charitable organizations that sold armored vests and armor plates to the military, bought with donations from Ukrainians.
After the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation into Ukraine, the capital charity organization announced the collection of 1 million US dollars for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In their posts on social networks, benefactors undertook to buy and give armored vests, helmets, medicines, and cars to the Ukrainian military free of charge.
But after importing at least 1,000 bulletproof vests and plates into the territory of Ukraine under the guise of humanitarian aid, the head of the organization, together with his employees and officials, decided to earn money.
They managed to sell 30 units of personal protection worth more than UAH 500,000 to the military before they were exposed.
The head of the organization is suspected of selling humanitarian aid for profit, committed in a significant amount, and during martial law (Part 3 of Article 201-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The sanction of the article provides imprisonment for up to 7 years.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing. Other persons involved in the illegal sale of bulletproof vests are being identified.
