SSU cyber specialists thwart a series of planned Russian airstrikes on aviation infrastructure of the Defense Forces.

As a result of a special operation in Khmelnytskyi region, the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) detained an FSB agent who was collecting intelligence to enable Russian missile strikes on Ukrainian Armed Forces airfields in western Ukraine.

The individual was identified as a 53-year-old unemployed local resident who had attracted the attention of Russian forces due to his pro-Kremlin activity in Telegram comment sections.

His main assignment was to locate runways used by the Ukrainian military in western regions and to monitor the “flight schedule” of combat aircraft at those airfields.

According to available data, Russian forces planned to use this information to carry out missile and drone attacks targeting Ukrainian military aviation.

SSU cyber specialists uncovered the agent's activities in advance and carefully documented his intelligence-gathering efforts. After implementing security measures to protect Defense Forces facilities, the suspect was apprehended at his place of residence.

A mobile phone was seized during the search, containing the collected data and a prepared “report” intended for the FSB.

Based on the gathered evidence, SSU investigators formally charged the man under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (high treason committed under martial law).

The suspect is currently in custody and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
