Under the procedural guidance of the Mykolaiv regional prosecutor's office, pre-judicial investigation in criminal proceedings on the facts of violations of laws and customs of war is carried out (ch. 1 item 438 of Criminal Code of Ukraine).

According to the investigation, on May 30, 2022, the Russian occupation forces fired on ammunition equipped with cluster munitions, prohibited by international standards, in the city of Ochakiv.

As part of the investigation, on May 31, 2022, prosecutors of the Mykolayiv District Prosecutor's Office, in cooperation with other law enforcement agencies, inspected the shelling sites, interrogated a number of witnesses and victims, and inspected 7 damaged social infrastructure facilities and residential buildings. Debris of torn ammunition was removed.

Evidence obtained during the investigation will be used to prove the criminal activities of the Russian Federation, including in international courts.
