The operational situation in the east and south of Ukraine remains challenging. Over the past day, there were 83 armed clashes on the front line, according to the evening summary from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on December 6.

"The enemy launched two missile and 71 aviation strikes, carried out 65 shelling attacks from rocket artillery systems on the positions of our troops and populated areas," the statement said.

According to the General Staff, Ukrainian forces repelled six attacks by Russian forces on the Kupiansk and Lyman directions, 10 attacks on the Bakhmut direction, 29 attacks on the Avdiivka direction, 13 attacks on the Mariupol direction, five attacks on the Zaporizhzhia direction, and one attack on the Shakhtarsk direction.

"The defense forces continue to hold positions on the left bank of the Dnipro River in the Kherson region. They continue to inflict fire damage on the enemy," the statement said.

On December 5, the American Institute for the Study of War reported that Ukrainian defense forces forced Russian forces to retreat north of the Avdiivka coke chemical plant, citing Ukrainian military observers and Russian "war correspondents." Analysts also reported the advancement of Ukrainian Armed Forces to the east of the railway near the coke chemical plant.
