The Security Service of Ukraine detained another agent of the Russian military intelligence (commonly known as the GRU) near Odessa. He was a resident of the unrecognized Transnistria, attempting to acquire secret Ukrainian developments in the field of unmanned systems.
To carry out the hostile task, the individual arrived in the Odessa region with the aim of recruiting a servicemember of the Defense Forces working with drones.
After establishing "contact" with the Ukrainian soldier, the agent hoped to obtain technical documentation on the latest Ukrainian strike and reconnaissance UAVs.
At all stages of the eRussian special operation, the spy reported to his handler—"the Deputy Minister of Defense of Transnistria," who cooperates with the Russian GRU.
The SSU exposed the agent immediately upon his arrival in Ukraine, where he posed as an entrepreneur supposedly importing Ukrainian food products.
The SSU then documented every step of the perpetrator, which allowed them to arrest him "red-handed" as he attempted to obtain a flash drive containing classified information related to UAVs.
According to the case materials, the individual planned to transport the materials to unrecognized Transnistria to establish his own production of combat drones for Russia.
However, the SSU foiled the Russia’s plans. Additionally, during the arrest, the spy was found to have two pistols, which are now being sent for forensic examination.
The suspect is currently in custody. He faces up to 15 years in prison with asset confiscation.
