The Security Service of Ukraine has detained an agent of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) who was recruited in Russia and sent to Ukraine to conduct intelligence and subversive activities.

Based on his coordinates, on December 31, 2022, the aggressor carried out a missile strike on one of the buildings of Kyiv National Taras Shevchenko University. He also gathered intelligence on the locations of headquarters and places with the highest concentration of personnel and military equipment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the capital and the Zhytomyr region.

As a result of the special operation, SSU agents exposed the Russian agent, determined his location, and detained him in his residence in Kyiv. According to the investigation, the hostile collaborator turned out to be a 40-year-old resident of the capital who adhered to pro-Kremlin views. In order to support the aggressor in the war against Ukraine, he obtained the status of a "volunteer" at the end of last year and traveled to Russia through third countries.

Upon crossing the border with the Russian Federation, the man voluntarily informed an FSB personnel about his readiness to cooperate with the Russian special services.

To confirm his "loyalty" to the occupiers, the Kyivan immediately provided them with coordinates, allegedly indicating the location of one of the units of the Defense Forces in the capital region.

And within a few days, the invaders carried out an aerial attack on this "location."

Afterward, representatives of the FSB brought their agent to Moscow, where he was thoroughly briefed on methods of work, concealment, and priority tasks. The traitor was then sent back to Ukraine for intelligence gathering.

In return, he was promised assistance in obtaining Russian citizenship and timely "evacuation" to the aggressor country.

To gather intelligence in the Zhytomyr region, the perpetrator covertly used his relatives who lived there. He extracted the "necessary" information through casual conversations.

In the capital, he independently conducted visual surveillance and took photographs of Ukrainian objects during walks around the city.

Based on the collected evidence, the Security Service investigators informed the detainee about the suspicion under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (state treason committed during a state of war).

The perpetrator is currently in custody and faces the possibility of life imprisonment.
