The Security Service of Ukraine has detained another FSB agent in Kyiv. This agent was allegedly involved in preparing new aerial attacks by Russia on critical infrastructure objects in the capital.
The suspect is a contract soldier from one of the National Guard military units, who was remotely recruited by Russian special services in January of this year.
To engage the soldier in covert cooperation, the FSB employed its resident (the leader of the espionage group). The resident turned out to be a former National Guard serviceman who resigned due to health reasons and moved to one of the European countries, where he started working for the FSB.
While residing outside of Ukraine, the resident provided instructions to his agent in Kyiv. Among other things, he requested information on the geolocation of thermal power plants in the capital.
The enemy was also interested in information regarding the technical condition of energy facilities and the level of their protection by units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
The Russian agent sent all the obtained information to his resident through a messenger in the form of photos with descriptions of the security systems.
For each completed task, both individuals received compensation from their FSB "handler" ranging from $100 to $1,000 USD. The amount depended on the complexity of the "work" performed and the importance of the acquired information.
According to available information, the intelligence data was needed by the occupiers to prepare for new aerial strikes on Kyiv during the cold season.
SSU operatives detained the Russian agent as a result of a multi-stage special operation while he was carrying out hostile tasks.
During searches at his place of residence in Kyiv, computer equipment and a mobile phone with evidence of intelligence subversion activities in favor of Russia were discovered.
The detained FSB agent is currently in custody, facing the possibility of a life sentence. Comprehensive measures are ongoing to hold his resident, who is hiding abroad, accountable for his actions
