The Security Service of Ukraine has gathered evidence against Major General Volodymyr Selivyorstov, the former commander of the 106th Airborne Division of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.
At the beginning of the full-scale war, he commanded the operation to capture Kyiv from the northwest direction.
According to the Russian General Staff's plan on February 24, 2022, Selivyorstov's airborne units were to take control of the Gostomel airfield, followed by the occupation of the entire settlement.
Another group of troops from the division received orders to capture Vyshneve, another locality on the outskirts of the Ukrainian capital.
If successful, the Russian forces planned to consolidate their positions in the occupied areas, creating a foothold for further advances on Kyiv.
Upon the approach of the main forces of the Russian occupation groups, they were to storm the capital of Ukraine, hoping to capture it.
However, the military forces of security and defense, including SSU fighters, thwarted the Russia's intentions. Initially, Ukrainian troops surrounded and destroyed a significant portion of Selivyorstov's group during the battles for Gostomel.
Then, Ukrainian defenders destroyed the Russian forces' headquarters in the Bucha region, where the Russian general and the entire command staff of his division were present.
At that time, Selivyorstov and his deputies sustained severe injuries, after which an order was given for the "evacuation" of the Russian group.
Based on the evidence gathered, SSU investigators have notified Selivyorstov in absentia of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 28 and Part 2 of Article 437 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (conducting an aggressive war committed by a group of individuals in conspiracy).
Comprehensive measures are underway to locate and punish the military criminal from the aggressor country.
The investigation is being conducted under the procedural guidance of the Office of the Prosecutor General.
