The Ukrainian Book Institute has become a member of the European consortium of organizations, EURead, which develops strategies to promote reading, implements projects for exchanging experiences among national organizations, and creates joint projects. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy.

Representing the Institute in EURead will be Olena Odynoka, Deputy Director for International Cooperation.

"For Ukraine, membership in EURead is very valuable because it is an opportunity to promote reading together with European colleagues, integrate into the European cultural space, and adopt the experience of member countries to strengthen reading development in Ukraine," the Ukrainian Book Institute said.

The first event with the participation of the Ukrainian Book Institute was a preliminary meeting regarding the planning of the EURead strategy. The next event will be an online conference titled "PISA and PIRLS results by country: Trends, contrasts, and implications for our work," scheduled for May 8th.

EURead currently consists of 34 organisations from 23 European countries (Azerbaijan, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine and United Kingdom) working in the field of literacy and reading promotion, involving all parts of society including political decision makers, associations, labour organisations, churches, schools, kindergartens, celebrities and companies.

In 2013, EURead organized a pan-European campaign called "Reading Aloud, Reading Together." And from 2018 to 2020, they implemented the "Europe Reads" campaign aimed at raising awareness of the importance of promoting reading, primarily at the national level. EURead is also a partner of the European Book Day project.

Participation in the organization is an important step in cultural diplomacy, which is aimed at promoting reading and Ukrainian literature
