The U.S. Department of Defense has announced the redeployment of a combat group stationed in Europe back to the United States on a permanent basis.

According to the official statement from U.S. Army Europe and Africa Command released on Wednesday, the 2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team of the 101st Airborne Division will return to its home base in Kentucky as planned, without replacement.

The Pentagon emphasized that, despite the brigade’s return to the U.S., this move should not be seen as a withdrawal of American forces from Europe or a sign of reduced commitment to NATO and Article 5. Rather, it reflects the growing capabilities and responsibility of European allies.

“Our NATO allies are meeting President Trump's call to take primary responsibility for the conventional defense of Europe. This force posture adjustment will not change the security environment in Europe,” the U.S. Department of Defense stated.

Officials added that the United States continues to maintain a strong presence across the European theater.
