Two Ukrainian films, created with the support of the Ukrainian State Film Agency, have been selected to participate in the prestigious European film market Connecting Cottbus, which is held during the festival in Cottbus, Germany - Film Festival Cottbus. Marina Er Gorbach's film "Klondike" will be presented in the section work in progress cocoWIP 2021, and Nariman Aliyev's film project "ORTALAN" - in the pitching section cocoPITCH 2021.


The author's social drama by director, screenwriter, and producer Marina Er Gorbach "Klondike" tells about three days in the life of a family that faced a difficult choice: can close people with different backgrounds go to a common future. One of the dramatic lines of the film is the events related to the MH-17 plane crash in July 2014.

The leading roles in the film were played by: Oksana Cherkashina, Serhiy Shadrin, and Oleg Shcherbyna. Production of the KEDR FILM company. The film project is one of the winners of the Eleventh State Cinema Competition. In May this year, the film became one of two projects supported by Turkey in international co-productions.

The Klondike is the story that people with the same past may have different futures.

Marina Er Gorbach, a member of the European Film Academy, is convinced that auteur cinema is almost the only way for national cinema to communicate with an international audience emotionally.

Nariman Aliyev's film project "ORTALAN" is dedicated to the tragic events in Crimea in May 1944 - the deportation of Crimean Tatars. According to the script, young Ismail, returning from the mountains to his native village of Ortalan, meets him empty-handed. Confused, he goes in search of his family and answers. Manufacturer: FORFILMZ LLC, producers - Volodymyr Yatsenko and Anna Sobolevska, the project became one of the winners of the Seventeenth State Cinema Competition. The shooting of the picture is scheduled for the summer of 2022.

The Cottbus Film Festival will take place from 2 to 7 November 2021. Connecting Cottbus (COCO), which is traditionally held during the festival, is one of the most influential markets for co-production, focusing on Eastern European cinema. This year, 19 film projects have been selected to participate. The movie market will take place online from November 3-5, 2021.
