As part of the international exhibition Grüne Woche (Green Week) in Berlin, the Ministry of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture of Ukraine and the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security of the Democratic Republic of Congo signed a Memorandum of Cooperation aimed at strengthening food security and developing agriculture.
The Memorandum was signed by Ukraine’s Minister of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture, Oleksiy Sobolev, and the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Muhindo Nzangi Butondo.
The document marks a new stage in partnership between the two countries and establishes a framework for developing bilateral cooperation focused on strengthening global food security, sharing experience, technologies, and best practices in agriculture.
The parties agreed to cooperate in the following areas:
- Creation of a logistics agrohub for receiving, storing, and distributing grains;
- Development of a food processing and distribution center, including for social programs and school cafeterias;
- Seed production and supply of high-quality seeds of key crops;
- Agricultural research and technologies (precision farming, irrigation methods);
- Fertilizer production and soil improvement;
- Crop and livestock production, aquaculture, veterinary products, and related technologies;
- Agrotechnical education for Congolese citizens;
- Agricultural product processing and related areas.
This opens new opportunities for expanding the presence of Ukrainian agricultural producers in African markets, developing exports of value-added agri-food products, and enhancing Ukraine’s role as a reliable partner in global food security.
“Signing this Memorandum is a practical step toward strengthening Ukraine’s role in ensuring global food security and expanding the international presence of the Ukrainian agricultural sector. We are interested not only in supplying raw materials but also in developing joint projects in processing, logistics, and the implementation of modern agricultural technologies. Cooperation with the Democratic Republic of Congo opens new markets for Ukrainian producers, creates investment opportunities, and contributes to the formation of sustainable food supply chains,” emphasized Oleksiy Sobolev.
A commission comprising representatives from Ukraine and Congo will be established to implement the provisions of the Memorandum.
The Memorandum is concluded for a period of five years with automatic renewal.
