On the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, Ukraine’s Minister of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture, Oleksiy Sobolev, and Denmark’s Minister for Green Transformation, Jeppe Bruus, signed a Memorandum of Cooperation.
The partnership builds on Denmark’s experience with the “Green Tripartite Agreement” and opens the door for joint projects in bioeconomy, forest restoration, and emissions reduction, particularly in the agricultural sector. It also provides support for farmers through modern technologies and new market opportunities.
“The Memorandum with Denmark brings our cooperation into practical implementation. It includes attracting investment in green recovery projects, developing a modern agricultural sector, and advancing the integration of European climate and bioeconomy standards. This partnership is another step in greening our economy — aligning growth policies, investments, and agricultural and environmental goals into a unified system,” said Oleksiy Sobolev.
The Memorandum outlines several key areas of cooperation:
- Implementation of multifunctional agriculture practices that balance economic and climate development goals.
- Joint projects to restore and rebuild agricultural value chains and infrastructure in Ukraine.
- Development of financial and tax incentives for green initiatives in agriculture, with revenues directed toward sector modernization.
- Nature-based solutions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
- Support for entrepreneurial farmers through innovations, research, and modern technologies.
The agreement is also expected to boost exports of Ukrainian agricultural products to EU countries.
During the meeting, both sides discussed Danish company participation in Ukraine’s reconstruction in energy, biofuels, agro-processing, and infrastructure. Significant Danish financial support for rebuilding Mykolaiv and Mykolaiv Oblast was highlighted. Specifically, during URC2025, NEFCO and the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs signed an agreement for DKK 338 million (approximately €45.5 million) to support regional reconstruction, including projects in water supply, centralized heating, energy efficiency, and complementary green solutions.
