Today, an Agreement was signed between the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the Federal Foreign Office of the Federal Republic of Germany on cooperation in the field of school education. The document was signed by the Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine, Oksen Lisovyi, and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany to Ukraine, Heiko Thoms.

The Agreement will contribute to strengthening and expanding bilateral educational partnerships and opens new opportunities for:

  • Supporting the study of the German language in Ukrainian schools;
  • Improving the qualifications of German language teachers;
  • Enhancing the language proficiency and intercultural knowledge of Ukrainian students;
  • Expanding the network of partner schools in Ukraine within the “Schools: Partners for the Future” (PASCH) program and promoting international school-to-school contacts.

The PASCH program connects schools worldwide that actively promote German language learning and support cultural exchange among youth from different countries. In Ukraine, PASCH schools cooperate with the Goethe-Institut Ukraine and the Central Agency for Schools Abroad (ZfA). Students in these schools can take language exams to obtain the German Language Diploma (DSD I/II), participate in international competitions and exchange programs, and receive scholarships to study in Germany.

As part of the agreement signing, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine, Nadiia Kuzmychova, met with representatives of the German Embassy in Ukraine, led by Head of the Cultural Section, Lisa Heike, to discuss the current state of bilateral cooperation in school and higher education, as well as future partnership prospects in the context of rebuilding and modernizing Ukraine’s education system.

The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine expresses gratitude to the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany for its consistent and comprehensive support of Ukraine during the full-scale war. Particularly valuable are the implemented humanitarian, educational, and scientific programs, as well as measures ensuring continuity of education for Ukrainian children temporarily residing in Germany and supporting the study of the Ukrainian language abroad.
