Ukraine and the EU have agreed to increase electricity import capacity to 2.1 GW for the winter months, Ukraine's Ministry of Energy reported on Tuesday.
"From December 1, the maximum import capacity from EU countries will rise from the current 1.7 to 2.1 GW. This will enhance the resilience of Ukraine's energy system amid Russia's criminal shelling and infrastructure destruction. I am grateful to our European partners, especially EU Commissioner Kadri Simson, for their consistent support for our energy system as winter approaches," stated Minister of Energy Herman Halushchenko, as quoted by the ministry's press service.
Ukraine will also have an additional 250 MW of guaranteed emergency assistance capacity from the EU.
The Ministry of Energy reminded that this important decision for Ukraine was discussed during a September meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in Kyiv.
