Ukraine is currently taking very fast and tangible steps at all levels to become a full-fledged member of the European Union in the near future. This was announced by Maria Mezentseva, the deputy head of the Committee on Ukraine's Integration with the EU, as reported by the press service of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
"The European Union sees its future intertwined with a strong, free, and independent Ukraine. At the same time, we expect a positive assessment from the European Commission regarding the fulfillment of the seven recommendations provided when we gained candidate status for EU membership. Both the Ukrainian parliament, the government, the Office of the President, and civil society have worked on fulfilling these points. It's worth noting that in the history of EU expansion, no country has received candidate status during a large-scale aggression and has fulfilled all the recommendations in such a record-short time," said the parliamentarian.
She emphasized that after receiving a positive conclusion from the European Commission, Ukraine will move towards negotiations for full EU membership.
"Our Armed Forces are working tirelessly every day to ensure that Ukraine joins the EU with all territories within the borders as of 1991. Importantly, the Eurointegration and Euroatlantic movements are now supported by the majority of Ukrainians," emphasized the member of parliament.
Currently, Ukraine continues to implement the Association Agreement with the EU, covering more than 30 areas. This means that the process of aligning our legislation with EU standards is ongoing.
