Ukraine's pavilion focuses on the theme of recovery at this year's 29th UN Climate Change Conference, which began on Monday, November 11, in Baku. This was reported by Ukraine's Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources.
"The content of the pavilion emphasizes the main principle of recovery — 'build back greener,' as well as the need for compensation for the environmental damage caused by Russia's aggression," the report states.
It is noted that the pavilion showcases environmental initiatives from the state, business, and civil society of Ukraine.
"Among them are digitalized agriculture technologies, developments in renewable energy and demining, startups creating paper from fallen leaves, carbon capture technologies, ecological alternatives to styrofoam, mobile factory-printers, and other Ukrainian innovations already used in the USA, the UK, and Japan," the Ministry said.
The Ministry of Environmental Protection also highlighted that during the full-scale invasion, Russia committed more than 6,500 environmental crimes. Greenhouse gas emissions amounted to 180 million tons, and nearly 3 million hectares of forests were damaged due to the war. A total of 139,000 square kilometers of land have been mined, three times the size of Switzerland.
The conference in Baku will run from November 11 to 22.
Ukraine plans to establish the National Agency for Ukraine's Post-War Recovery to consolidate claims for compensation of damages caused by Russia's military aggression.
