The delegation of Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense, led by Deputy Minister of Defense Valerii Churkin, made a working visit to Tokyo at the invitation of Japan’s Defense Minister Gen Nakatani, where they participated in the DSEI Japan 2025 international arms and military equipment exhibition.
DSEI Japan is one of the world’s leading platforms for showcasing defense capabilities, technological innovations, and strategic dialogue among partner states. This year’s exhibition brought together over 250 companies from 35 countries, as well as defense delegations from 40 states, including the USA, the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Australia, Canada, Poland, and others.
Ukraine was officially represented on this platform for the first time in history — both by the Ministry of Defense delegation and by six enterprises from the Ukrainian defense industry.
The Ukrainian delegation held a series of bilateral meetings with representatives of defense ministries, government bodies, and leading arms manufacturers. Discussions focused on further steps to deepen cooperation, technological exchange, and mutual strengthening of defense capabilities.
Representatives of the Ministry of Defense also visited the Central Military Hospital of the Japan Self-Defense Forces, where wounded Ukrainian defenders are receiving treatment. Ukrainian servicemen were awarded departmental honors from the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine during the visit.
The delegation familiarized themselves with the conditions of treatment and rehabilitation, communicated with hospital staff, and held negotiations with the leadership of medical institutions about further development of Ukrainian-Japanese cooperation in the field of military medicine. A meeting took place with the head of the Central Military Hospital of the Japan Self-Defense Forces.
“Ukraine is grateful to its Japanese partners for their support and humanity. At a time when the world sees our country as a shield of freedom, our task is to strengthen strategic alliances, develop technological advantages, and bring every one of our warriors home victorious,” emphasized Valerii Churkin.
