Ukraine will receive €42.5 million for the restoration of the arch over the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant

International partners are allocating €42.5 million to restore the arch of the New Safe Confinement (NSC) over the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant.

This was announced by Ukraine’s Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources, Svitlana Hrynchuk, on her Facebook page.

The additional contributions from the United Kingdom, the European Commission, and France were announced on Wednesday, June 25, at the EBRD headquarters in London during a meeting of the Assembly of Contributors to the Chernobyl International Cooperation Account.

 

 

Breakdown of contributions for the NSC restoration:

  • France – €10.6 million
  • United Kingdom – €6.9 million
  • European Commission – €25 million

In addition, Grant Agreement No. 5 includes €5 million for assessing damage to the NSC, as well as for developing and implementing temporary repair measures.

According to Hrynchuk, the meeting covered plans for temporary repairs and further work to fully restore the arch’s functionality. The Assembly acknowledged Ukraine’s progress in inspecting structural elements and carrying out preparatory work.
