The Ukrainian national team won one medal at the World Championship in rowing slalom among youth and juniors, which ended in Ivrea, Italy. This is the first award at the tournament for the Ukrainian team in six years and the third in history.
Ukrainian rower Sergiy Sovko won the bronze medal in extreme slalom kayaking at the world championship among juniors.
The 17-year-old athlete finished fourth, but the result of Oscar Ilyon was disqualified because he missed the fifth gate. Sovko took the place of the Frenchman. As a result, on the podium, the Ukrainian lost to two other Frenchmen - Hugo Monasse and Martin Cornu.
This is the first medal for Ukraine in this discipline and the only one at this year's tournament. In total, the Blue-Yellows have won only three awards in their history. Previously, Ukrainians Ruslan Pestov fought medals at this level in 2016 (single kayaks, juniors) and Victoria Uss in 2013 (single canoes, U-23).
