Ukraine's Defence Forces destroyed more than 8,000 drones and missiles in October while repelling large-scale Russian attacks.

According to the Ukrainian Air Force, more than 43,000 tactical-level unmanned aerial vehicles were also neutralised during the month.

Ukrainian air defence results in October

During October 2026, Ukrainian forces intercepted:

  • 14 Kh-101 cruise missiles;
  • 11 Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles;
  • 12 Kalibr cruise missiles;
  • 7 Kh-59/69 guided air-launched missiles;
  • 8 Iskander-K cruise missiles;
  • 1 Zircon anti-ship missile;
  • 143 S8000 Banderol missiles;
  • 4,455 Shahed-131/136 and Gerbera attack drones, as well as Parodiya decoy drones;
  • 2,688 Shahed-238 attack drones;
  • 1,104 reconnaissance UAVs;
  • 809 Lancet drones.

Fighter and army aviation, surface-to-air missile units, mobile fire groups, unmanned systems operators and electronic warfare units are involved in intercepting and destroying Russian aerial targets.

Ukraine continues to strengthen its multi-layered air defence system

Throughout October, Russian forces systematically changed the routes and flight altitudes of their aerial weapons, combining attack drones with decoys and large-scale missile strikes.

Ballistic missiles remain a particular challenge, as Russian forces have actively used them to target civilian infrastructure.

To protect Ukrainian airspace effectively, the Defence Forces need additional systems capable of intercepting Russian ballistic missiles.

Meanwhile, the Ukrainian military continues to integrate and strengthen its multi-layered air defence network, introducing new approaches to detecting and neutralising aerial threats.
