As part of the industrial section of the Trieste Film Festival, awards were presented to the winners of the When East Meets West co-production forum, partnered by the Ukrainian Institute. 


In particular, the film It’s Not A Full Picture by Maryna Stepanska, as a result of the presentation of projects at the development stage, received the CICLIC WEMW award (5,000 euros) from the French foundation Ciclic Centre-Val de Loire. Also, the producer of the film and the Head of the Ukrainian Institute Supervisory Board Julia Sinkevych received a scholarship from the EAVE Producers Workshop.

This year Ukrainian films are presented in several programmes of the Trieste Film Festival. Thus, the festival’s traditional focus programme Wild Roses, dedicated this year to Ukrainian female directors, included 7 full-length and 3 short films, which are:   

  • Outside by Ol’ha Zhurba  
  • Klondike by Maryna Er Horbac  
  • This Rain Will Never Stop by Alina Horlova 
  • When the Trees Fall by Marysja Nikitjuk, who personally presented the film  
  • Stop Zemlia by Kateryna Hornostai  
  • Home Games by Alisa Kovalenko  
  • Pryvoz by Eva Nejman  
  • Blood by Valeria Sochyvets,   
  • I did not want to make a war film by Nadia Parfan   
  • The Seventh Shift by Nataliya Ilchuk

As part of the industrial section of the festival, namely the co-production forum When East Meets West, Honeymoon by Zhanna Ozirnaya and It’s Not A Full Picture by Maryna Stepanska were presented. In the feature film competition, Butterfly Vision by Maksym Nakonechnyi was presented, and in the documentary competition – Fragile Memory by Igor Ivanko and The Hamlet Syndrome by Elwira Niewiera and Piotr RosoÅ‚owski. The documentary film Mariupolis 2 by Mantas Kvedaravicius and the short film Liturgy of Anti-Tank Obstacles by Dmytro Sukholytkyy-Sobchuk were shown out of competition. Also, Malevich by Daria Onyshchenko was presented in the “This is It” section.

The Trieste Film Festival is a leading Italian film festival dedicated to Central and Eastern European cinema, taking place from 21-28 January 2023.
