On January 4, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree granting citizenship of the country to foreigners participating in the so-called special military operation.
The document is posted on the legal information website.
According to the decree, foreigners who have entered into a contract for service in the Russian Armed Forces, as well as those discharged during the so-called special military operation from military service in the Russian Armed Forces due to health conditions, reaching the age limit, expiration of the contract term, or cessation of armed aggression against Ukraine, are eligible to apply for Russian citizenship.
Relatives of the mentioned categories of foreign citizens will also have the right to obtain Russian citizenship.
The decree specifies a list of documents that must be submitted along with the citizenship application. Applicants will need to provide their passport, a contract for service in the Russian Armed Forces with a term of at least one year, and a certificate of name or surname change (if applicable). In addition, mandatory fingerprint registration will be required.
For family members of foreigners who have entered into a contract with the Russian Armed Forces, the application must be accompanied by medical certificates confirming the absence of drug addiction, infectious diseases hazardous to others, and a certificate of absence of HIV infection.
