Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky held a series of high-level talks on Wednesday with international partners, underscoring continued global support for Ukraine and coordinated efforts to bring Russia’s war to an end through diplomacy.

The day included conversations with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, French President Emmanuel Macron, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva, and Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama. Romania’s Foreign Minister also visited Kyiv — her first trip to Ukraine since taking office.

"All our partners are clear on one point: it is Russia that must take the necessary steps to end this war," Zelensky said in an evening address. “This is Russia’s aggression, and it is Russia that must agree to a ceasefire and meaningful diplomacy.”

Zelensky expressed gratitude for the “unequivocal support” Ukraine continues to receive from Western allies, stressing that Russia’s invasion is not only a war against Ukraine but also a threat to Europe’s collective security.

“Every decision related to ending this war concerns all of Europe,” he said. “That’s why we’re working closely with our European partners to ensure their voices are central in any future peace process.”

According to the Ukrainian president, Kyiv and European leaders are aligning their positions ahead of upcoming diplomatic meetings on the continent. Among the key topics discussed was Ukraine’s essential participation in any negotiations with Russia.

“Everyone understands that in Russia, all decisions are made by one person,” Zelensky said. “And this person fears U.S. sanctions. That’s why Ukraine must be at the table in any talks. This war is about our independence — and by extension, the independence of every European nation.”

Zelensky also highlighted ongoing discussions about possible diplomatic formats, including trilateral talks. He noted that U.S. President Donald Trump has shown “openness to seeking real solutions,” and that Kyiv remains committed to a peace that is both just and lasting.

There were also encouraging signals from the International Monetary Fund about continued financial support for Ukraine.

“These are vital messages for our resilience,” Zelensky said. “Likewise, we are receiving strong and clear signals from the European Union.”

On the security front, a meeting of national security advisors from Ukraine, European countries, and the United States was scheduled for later in the day, with President Trump’s representative expected to attend.

“This is about coordinated diplomacy and well-developed approaches,” Zelensky explained, adding that he would also be speaking with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, a long-time supporter of Ukraine.

The Ukrainian leader concluded his remarks with a call for unity and resolve.

“The world is with us as long as we stay united in defending our independence,” he said. “We are doing everything to bring this war to an end — and to do so with a dignified peace.”
