Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky held a meeting on Thursday focused on the export of Ukrainian-made weapons.
“Today I held a detailed and highly practical meeting regarding our weapons: what exactly Ukraine needs in greater quantities for our defense, and what can be exported to further strengthen Ukraine and deepen our ties with partners around the world in a sustainable and long-term way. Arms exports should become a long-term source of economic strength for Ukraine,” Zelensky said in his evening address.
He added that the details of the arms export framework are being developed by the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, and parliamentary representatives to ensure that any necessary regulatory changes are adopted without delay.
The president also announced ongoing efforts to secure the disbursement of funds in June from the European support package worth €90 billion.
“We fought for this package, it has been approved, and now the necessary procedures must ensure that these funds begin working for Ukraine already this summer—for our resilience, our defense, and support for Ukrainian citizens. And it will happen,” Zelensky emphasized.
According to the president, expanding arms exports could provide Ukraine with an additional long-term source of revenue while strengthening defense-industrial cooperation with international partners and supporting the continued development of the country’s defense sector.
