Widespread Russian attacks across Ukraine kill civilians, damage infrastructure

Russian forces carried out widespread attacks across several Ukrainian regions over the past 24 hours, killing civilians, injuring dozens, and damaging homes and infrastructure, regional authorities reported.

In the Zaporizhzhia region, Russian troops launched 749 strikes on 34 populated areas, killing four people and wounding six others, according to Head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration Ivan Fedorov. The attacks included 19 airstrikes, 423 drone strikes—mostly FPV drones, four multiple-launch rocket system (MLRS) attacks, and 303 artillery strikes. Authorities received 76 reports of damage to residential buildings, vehicles, and infrastructure facilities.

In the Dnipropetrovsk region, Russian forces carried out an overnight missile strike on Kryvyi Rih, damaging nine private houses, five apartment buildings, an administrative building, and vehicles, said Regional Military Administration Head Oleksandr Hanzha. In the Synelnykivskyi district, drone attacks killed two civilians—a 77-year-old man and a 72-year-old woman—and injured a 53-year-old woman, who was hospitalized in moderate condition. The strikes caused fires and damaged three private homes.

In the Mykolaiv region, a Russian missile strike hit the territory of an enterprise in the Mykolaiv district without causing casualties, according to Regional Military Administration Head Vitalii Kim. Russian forces also carried out 14 FPV drone attacks on the Ochakiv and Kutsurub communities. In Ochakiv, a gymnasium’s façade and roof were damaged while 30 students and teachers were sheltering in a bomb shelter. A private house and a non-operational gas station building were also damaged. No casualties were reported.

In the Kherson region, 10 people were wounded, including one child, as a result of Russian drone, air, and artillery attacks, said Regional State Administration Head Oleksandr Prokudin. Dozens of settlements, including Kherson city, came under fire. A multi-storey apartment building, three private houses, and civilian vehicles were damaged.

In the Donetsk region, Russian forces killed one civilian and wounded seven others on January 20, according to Regional State Administration Head Vadym Filashkin. The victim was reported in Osykove. Since the start of the full-scale invasion, Russian attacks have killed 3,980 people and injured 8,804 in the region, excluding Mariupol and Volnovakha.

In the Kharkiv region, Russian attacks on eight settlements left five people injured, said Regional Military Administration Head Oleh Syniehubov. The region was targeted with guided aerial bombs, Geran-2 drones, Molniya-type UAVs, and FPV drones. Damage was reported to apartment buildings, private houses, industrial infrastructure, and open areas. Over the past day, the transit evacuation point in Lozova received 61 people, bringing the total number of evacuees registered there to 16,917.

In the Chernihiv region, a Russian Shahed drone exploded on the grounds of a lyceum in a village of the Dobrianska community, while another drone strike caused a fire at a cultural center in Semenivka, said Regional Military Administration Head Viacheslav Chaus. No casualties were reported. Overall, the region recorded 37 attacks and 50 explosions over the past day, with the heaviest strikes hitting border areas.
