Ukraine has received €5.9 billion from the European Union, Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko reported on Telegram.

She stated that €4.1 billion under the ERA Loans mechanism represents the final tranche of an €18 billion program financed from profits of frozen Russian assets.

“This is an example of Russia beginning to pay for its crimes. At the same time, it signals European solidarity and determination to support our ability to withstand,” Svyrydenko emphasized.

An additional €1.8 billion was allocated under the Ukraine Facility, confirming that Ukraine is steadily moving along the path of reforms and European integration, the Prime Minister noted.

“Both decisions are the result of strategic partnership and trust between Ukraine and the European Union,” Svyrydenko stressed.

She expressed gratitude to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Commissioners Valdis Dombrovskis and Maarten Koos for their leadership and unwavering support for Ukraine.

“This helps us maintain macro-financial stability even amid the challenges of the war—the largest in Europe since World War II. These funds are about saved lives, restored infrastructure, and a strengthened economy. It means we can direct more domestic resources to the most important task—defense,” the Prime Minister said, adding, “Europe stands with Ukraine. The aggressor will inevitably pay. Justice will prevail.”

The European Union must continue to increase the cost of war for Russia, as “the scars on the Russian economy are becoming increasingly visible,” European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said, commenting on the €5.9 billion aid to Ukraine.

“We all want this war to end. But lasting peace depends on a strong and independent Ukraine. Today, Putin still believes he can outlast us. He still thinks that, over time, Russia will achieve its battlefield objectives. This is a clear miscalculation,” von der Leyen said, adding that now is the time to intensify efforts to bring Putin to the negotiating table.

She also reminded that Russia recently intensified attacks targeting all of Ukraine’s energy sources simultaneously. Von der Leyen stressed that, having failed to make progress on the battlefield, Putin is once again trying to terrorize the Ukrainian people, using winter as a weapon.
