For the first time in the history of Ukraine, the seaport of Yuzhny (Pivdenny) in Odessa region surpassed the Romanian port of Constanta in terms of cargo turnover in 2020.
According to the statistics published on the website of the port of Constanta, the port's cargo turnover in 2020 amounted to 60.37 million tons. At the same time, according to the USPA (Ukraine Sea Ports Authority), in 2020 the cargo turnover of Yuzhny amounted to 61.66 million tons. Thus, the port located on the Northern outskirts of Odessa was able to overtake the Romanian port, which it had been equal to for many years.
This happened because the port of Pivdenny, despite the consequences of the coronavirus, increased its cargo turnover by 14.5% compared to the previous year. And during the same time, Constanta, on the contrary, reduced cargo turnover by 9.6%.
