The MCIP continues to record damage to objects of cultural infrastructure in Ukraine because of Russian aggression. Thus, as of February 25, 2023, 1,322 objects of cultural infrastructure have been damaged, excluding cultural heritage sites. Almost a third of them are destroyed (505 objects).

At the same time, over the past month, the total number of affected objects of cultural infrastructure has increased by 51 objects, most of which are in the Donetsk region (33 objects or 65%) and Kharkiv region (9 objects or 18%).

Cultural infrastructure generally received the most significant losses and damages in the regions of Donetsk, Kharkiv, Kyiv, Kherson, Mykolaiv, and Luhansk.

Creative hubs, libraries, museums, theaters, philharmonic halls, and art education institutions (art schools and colleges) were damaged and destroyed on the territory of 199 ACs (amalgamated communities) (13.5%) in Vinnytsia (2%), Dnipropetrovsk (13%), Donetsk (85%), Zhytomyr (12%), Zakarpattia (2%), Zaporizhzhia (27%), Kyiv (27%), Luhansk (42%) Mykolaiv (42%), Odessa (3%), Sumy (41%), Kharkiv (36%), Kherson (29%), Khmelnytskyi (2%), Cherkasy (3%), Chernihiv (14%) regions and the city of Kyiv.

The following objects were affected:

  • creative hubs – 623
  • libraries - 508.
  • museums and galleries – 69.
  • theaters and philharmonic halls - 22.
  • institutions of art education - 100.

The largest group of cultural infrastructure objects that suffered damage or destruction are creative hubs - 47% of the total number of cultural infrastructure institutions affected.

It should be noted that currently, almost the entire territory of Luhansk and significant parts of the territories of the Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, and Donetsk regions are still under temporary occupation. Because of this, it is impossible to count the exact number of objects of cultural infrastructure damaged during hostilities and occupation.
