More than 22.5 million tons of cargo handled in the port of Odessa in 2021. The Odessa port stevedores (berth operators) increased the transshipment of liquid bulk, retained their positions in container cargo and leveled the situation with the volumes of grain and ferrous metals.

The indicator of cargo handling in the port of Odessa in 2021 reached 22,565.5 thousand tons, which is 96.6% of the same indicator in 2020, according to the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority (USPA).

At the same time, 19987.2 thousand tons (-7.5%) of dry cargo were handled in the reporting period, liquid cargo - 2578.3 thousand tons (+ 47.1%).

The dynamics of the transshipment volumes of dry cargo by the main items in the nomenclature is as follows:

• grain in bulk - 6,832.0 thousand tons (-6.8% to the indicator of 2020);
• containers - 671,532 TEU (+ 3%);
• ferrous metals - 4,930.2 thousand tons (-16.9%);
• other bulk (refractory clay, ore, feldspar) - 473.1 thousand tons (+ 44.6%).

At the moment, the transshipment of goods in the Odessa port is carried out at sixteen terminals. All terminals are operated by private companies with the status of port operators.

Last year for the port passed under the sign of overcoming the pandemic crisis. In the first half of the year we had a gap of 13.6% from the indicators of 2020. In the second half of the year, our partners - stevedoring companies have reduced the gap by more than three times.

The largest increase in cargo turnover over the past year was demonstrated by Olimpex Coupe International LLC - 1,382.8 thousand tons (+45.7%, compared to the result of the year before), Novotech-Terminal LLC - 2,524.2 thousand tons (+13.2%).

The leader among Ukrainian terminals for transshipment of containerised cargo, is Container Terminal Odessa CTO (subsidiary of the German holding HHLA). In the reporting period it was able not only to maintain its position in 2020, but also to increase its indicators to 390,806 TEU (+5.1%).

The operators of the Odessa seaport, based on the results of their work in January-October 2021, handled 18.463 million tons of cargo, which is 5.2% less than in the same period in 2020.
