A new large border crossing point is being constructed on the border between Ukraine and Romania, which will operate 24/7 and without weight restrictions for freight transport. This was reported by the State Agency for Infrastructure Restoration and Development of Ukraine.

Currently, construction is underway on the new international crossing point "Bila Tserkva (Ukraine) – Sighetu Marmației (Romania)" including access roads and a border bridge over the Tysa River.

This crossing will operate around the clock for cars and freight vehicles without weight limits. It will have 6 lanes for passenger cars, 2 lanes for buses, and 6 lanes for freight transport. Its daily capacity is expected to be 900 passenger cars (approximately 1,800 people), 80 buses (3,000 to 4,000 passengers), and 400 freight trucks.

The construction of the road bridge, particularly on Ukrainian territory, is being financed by the Romanian side. Currently, work is ongoing on the bridge erection and the setup of a temporary bypass.

“It is important to develop border infrastructure with our Romanian partners, since, for example, on the border with Hungary, we operate 9 crossing points. On the border with Romania, currently only two are functional, although the shared border with this country is significantly longer. I thank our foreign partners for the joint work and implementation of such large-scale projects,” said Mykola Boyko, First Deputy Head of the Restoration Agency.

Next steps include creating a joint Ukrainian-Romanian commission for the acceptance and handover of the facility, signing an agreement on the technical maintenance of the bridge, and amending the Agreement between the governments regarding customs regime, control, and logistics, the Restoration Agency added.
