Major General Mykhailo Drapatyi, whom President Volodymyr Zelenskyy selected as the next Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, pledged to serve with responsibility and respect for people.

He made the statement in a Facebook post.

"I thank the President of Ukraine for his trust, the Minister of Defense for his support, and the Defense Forces for this new stage of service," Drapatyi said.

The major general said that serving Ukraine has always been an honor for him, but during the war for independence it represents absolute responsibility.

He also expressed gratitude to Oleksandr Syrskyi for his consistent efforts to strengthen the Ukrainian military.

"I will work responsibly, with focus and respect for the people who are defending our state today. Glory to the nation. Death to the enemies," Drapatyi said.
